8 Ways To Earn Some Quick Cash

Ever have those moments where you wished you had just a little more money? Maybe you need to pay off some debt, or help your kids get through college, or get some food on the table. Maybe you want just a little fun money, or planning a much needed vacation. Well, over the years there have been times where my husband and I were on a  very tight budget and needed that little extra cash :). Here are 8 great ideas for you that have worked for me. Hope they help!

1- Sell items on facebook marketplace and local BST groups.

  • This is my “go-to” if I need some money fast. There is always something laying around your house that you can sell. Check your closets! I bet there is a handful of clothes you no longer wear :).
  • When you find items that you are ready to part with, find an area with good lighting and take pictures of each item separately. You can also put them in small groups as well. Make sure the pictures are clear and marketable. You want the buyer to fall in love with the item. I will sometimes stage my items to look like they are on a shelf in a store or with a white background to make the item “pop”.
    • Having a hard time finding things to sell? Dig deep into those closets and think “do I really need it or would I rather have the cash?”  Here are some ideas – Halloween costumes, Christmas decor, children’s toys, lamps, furniture, knic knacs, kitchen items (like those dishes you no longer use), books, home decor, etc…
  • Once you’ve gathered a few more items and gotten everything photographed, search online to see how much a similar item is going for and use that to price your item. Write a small description explaining what the item is and making sure to point out any flaws, then post it.
  • You will usually start getting interest on your item that day if it is something really marketable.
    • Just a little info on the rules of how to sell online
      • In most local groups, the first person to post “interested” has first dibs. Work with that person to meet and exchange item for cash. If that person wants you to wait for hours or days then that is up to you to say no and move on to the next person in line. But always go in order of who posts first, second, third etc 🙂 If you do this long enough like I have you will gain a following and have many repeat customers!

2-Have a yard sale

  • Sometimes you have so much to sell that listing each item online is too time consuming. So I would suggest having a huge yard sale and even ask your friends and family if they wish to donate items. Many people are just wanting to get rid of the items so they are happy to just give them to you!
  • Best part of selling your items? Not only are you making money, but you are purging your house and sheds of clutter 🙂

3-Put out an ad for babysitting, animal care or even house cleaning.

  • I needed some extra cash for my girls in college, so I reached out and got hired to clean a house. Now that one house has turned into several more, and I am even getting my business license lol!!
  • House cleaning can be done with neighbors, or through realtors. When people sell homes, they need it cleaned when they leave. Also many commercial buildings need cleaning.
  • There are lots of opportunities to clean out there and it just takes a phone call to find them 🙂 Day care centers (I’ve done this one before), dentist offices, doctors offices, any local business really.

4-Swagbucks

  • This isn’t a fast money maker but if you stay with it in your spare time, the money adds up.
  • Watch videos, take surveys, buy items you normally would online and get money back.
  • Last Christmas, I ordered gifts through my regular stores but went through Swagbucks website first (they provide a link to the store of your choice, and that allows Swagbucks to “follow you” and track your spending so that you can get rewarded). After my sale went through, I received a percentage back into my Swagbucks account! Then when I felt I wanted to cash in I turned around and got it all on an amazon gift card (though Amazon isn’t the only store you can get a gift card too, there’s also Walmart, Target, and Home Depot to name a few. You can also have the money sent to your paypal in $25 increments if you prefer).

5-Varage sale

  • This is like facebook marketplace but it’s an app for your phone.
  • I have had good luck with this app. Same rules apply here. Take your photos, list them with a description. First person to respond had dibs and then if they pass or can’t meet within your timeframe you move on to the next person. Just have good customer service because you will most definitely get repeat customers 🙂

6-Ask around if anyone has a storage unit that needs to be cleaned out.

  • I have also done this and it can bring in some good money for you!
  • It can be a lot of work! Depending on the size of the storage unit this may take a lot of your time,  but its usually worth it.
  • Work with your client and figure out what they want done with the items in the storage unit. Do they want it moved somewhere else? Do they want to sell it’ entire contents? Agree on a commission that is fair and have one big yard sell to get rid of the bulk and then sell everything else online (especially those big ticket items).
  • I have done this several times already and it can really pay off. There are people out there that just want to get rid of those storage units but don’t have the energy or time to go through them.

7-Selling your clothes

  • I know I already touched on this a little in the beginning, but if you aren’t having any luck with Facebook or Varagesale, check out these options for selling clothes.
    • I have tried these and they work 🙂
      • take to consigment stores
      • sell online
      • sell on poshmark

8-Re sell

  • I haven’t personally done this yet but my daughter does and she makes good money.
  • Find items in thrift stores that you can buy cheap and re sell them online.
  • Lots of times thrift stores get sooo much that they simply want to get rid of it and sell it off really cheap. They even have “fill a bag for $5, $10 etc”
  • If you become really good at this you can even open up an ebay account and re sell all your items on there for great deals.

Bonus ideas – Make and sell crafts!! I have sold lots of rice bags and now I am painting wine bottles 🙂 You can also wrap Christmas presents for people, walk dogs, take down wallpaper, paint, and even rake leaves. Also there is always recycling cans, bottles and plastic.

Hope this helps you to get that little bit of extra cash you need 🙂

Definitely forever wishing I had more money! I’ve recently got together a pile of things to put up for sale to help push my savings account a little more for future endeavours. It’s mad how many unused and unwanted things you have lying around that other people may love if you really look! Love the idea of swagbucks, definitely going to get myself on there!

Hey Trudy! I like the storage unit idea. Never thought of that… This is a seasonal idea but I have a friend that paints Christmas ornaments. He takes a plain ornament and paints anything from traditional images to custom ones like baby’s first Christmas, first Christmas for Realtor clients, first Christmas for couples… His prices range from $20 – $60 each. He gives them as gifts too. He’s done this for over 15 years and has a lot of repeat clients.
