Day Trip in Canada Ending With A Roller Coaster Down A Mountain!

A roller coaster down a mountain?? Yes that is what I said lol. I can honestly say I had never thought about it, dreamed of it, or even considered it to be something I would actually enjoy doing, but I LOVED IT! Who would have thought that my husband and I would find such a place on our anniversary trip in Canada. I guess it was just meant to be lol! We do love adventures 🙂

My husband had been scouting out different breweries that he wanted to see in Canada and the town of Revelstoke came up :). It was about a two hour drive one way from where we were staying in Golden, BC so we decided we would make a day trip of it and see this side of Canada :).

Revelstoke here we come!

Heading along the trans Canada BC-1 West from Golden to Revelstoke, you will drive through Canada’s Glacier National Park. This is not the same Glacier National Park in Montana, USA :). Along this road you travel through several tunnels. These tunnels are put in specific areas where avalanches often occur. I must say that we seen many signs warning about avalanches in Canada. You could even see trails on the mountain sides where trees were stripped due to the avalanches.

The scenery on this highway doesn’t disappoint! There are huge, towering mountains and lots of green grass everywhere. Tall pine trees line the roadway and make you feel like your in the middle of the forest.

Lush green ferns and gorgeous trees ahead!

There are so many trails to hike in Glacier but we were on a time crunch so we stuck to the shorter ones. One of those was Giant Cedars Boardwalk Trail. Talk about lush and green! Absolutely gorgeous! It reminded me of the redwoods and ferns up in the area of Crescent City, California (Northern California). Its so quiet and you hear the birds singing and water cascading over rocks in the distance. Totally serene 🙂

The trail is just inside Revelstoke National Park right off the highway. There is a big parking lot and the trail is not very long at all. Its less than 1/2 mile. But it is absolutely gorgeous and great for pictures! There are bathrooms also located here if you need a potty break. Just be careful as I had a mouse run right up to my feet while on the toilet!!!  Yes I screamed and scared the mouse he took off the other way after coming about 2 inches from my feet LOL!!

Across the highway and following it for quite awhile is Illecillewaet River. I heard there was some good white water rafting on this river. Maybe next time I’m in Canada (There will be a next time for sure!!) I’ll try the white water rafting :).

Revelstoke you have so much to offer!

The Beautiful town of Revelstoke sits at approx 1500 feet in elevation in British Columbia, Canada on the banks of the Columbian River. Gorgeous mountain ranges all around as the eye can see. In the winter we are told their total average snowfall is around 40 feet! I now know why they are so popular in the winter for skiing :).

In the heart of the town there is a Brewery called Mt. Bigby Brewing Company. It is a really cool place. The decor is industrial like with, grays, metals and pine colored woods. There is indoor seating as well as a patio. There are huge windows that were great for seeing the greenery and mountains around you.

They serve several different flavors of beer. My husband who absolutely has a taste for good beers gave this brewery a big thumbs up! He loved several of their beers.

They also serve some very tasty foods! We had the tuna poke. OMG SO good!!! It was made with yellow fin tuna and avacado and also served with seasame wonton chips. YUM!!

We also ordered the big spent grain pretzel with dip. Now this was yummy as well!!

The also serve pizza, salads, tacos, sliders, desserts and more!

I would have to give these brew masters a huge thumbs up with their food menu! I have been to many breweries now and this one is definitly in the top 10 for their food menu!

Are we really taking a coaster down a mountain????

Revelstoke Mountain Resort and The Pipe Mountain coaster-

We were told by one of our sweet waitresses back in Banff that we needed to go do this roller coaster while in Revelstoke. So we decided to see what it was all about. We drove up to the Revelstoke Mountain Resort and parked the car. This is a winter ski paradise and you can see why as the mountains are just beautiful! We walked over to the ticket area and purchased our tickets. Which I was actually surprised that it wasn’t that expensive. At this point after grabbing our tickets I can feel the anxiety starting to build up within me lol.

Riding the tram up was pretty exciting. Now I am not one that likes them too much, nor flying, nor anesthesia for surgery. But I am pushing myself to find something positive in them from here on out. I didn’t get TOO scared on the gondola although I was getting anxiety about the roller coaster lol! I was wondering if I would chicken out haha. We got off the gondola and proceeded over to the coaster entrance.

Now these coasters are a one person coaster that goes from the top of the mountain down to the bottom. You have a seat belt and a lever to either push forward for fast or pull back for braking and to slow it down. My husband went first as I knew he wanted to go full blast and me well I knew I would be putting on the brakes haha

My husband said that his ride was fantastic! He hit lots of G’s in the corners and said it was a super fun ride!

I started out and of course I start nervous laughing haha. I started with it full force and then in the first corner I pulled the brake a little because I screamed and was like “omg it’s tooo fast” lol. I then put the lever forward again and thought, ok lets go fast again….then I see the track disappear! Omg it went over a hump and straight down lol. I screamed again and was nervous laughing haha. The rest of the ride I was trying to keep it more fast than braking but heh I did it 🙂

When your done riding the coaster you can pick up your pictures in the store. We picked up ours and I love that you see the gondola behind us 🙂

Overall Revlestoke was a must see little town for us. Next time we go back not only will we be stopping at the brewery and the rollercoaster but would also like to see the museum, maybe do a little white water rafting on the river and take on some hikes.

Have you been to Revelstoke before? What was your favorite thing you did while visiting there?
